Responding to Bomb Threats - Hotel Staff
Overview
This project focused on developing a hotel safety e-learning module to train staff on how to respond effectively to bomb threats. The aim was to develop a clear, engaging, and straightforward course that would equip employees with the knowledge and confidence to handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively.
My Role
As the Instructional Designer, I was responsible for:
Curriculum Development: Outlining learning objectives, sequencing content, and structuring the course flow.
Instructional Design: Applying adult learning principles to ensure staff could retain and apply critical safety steps.
eLearning Development: Building the course in Articulate Storyline, complete with interactive scenarios, knowledge checks, and step-by-step decision-making simulations.
Visual Design: Using Adobe Photoshop to create custom graphics and visual elements that supported clarity and engagement.
Key Features of the Training
Scenario-Based Learning: Realistic hotel scenarios where employees practice responding to phone-in bomb threats, unattended packages, or suspicious behavior.
Step-by-Step Protocols: Guidance on communication, evacuation procedures, and immediate reporting responsibilities.
Interactive Knowledge Checks: Quizzes and “what would you do?” branching activities to reinforce decision-making.
Visual Clarity: Storyboards, infographics, and layouts designed in Figma & Photoshop to simplify complex instructions.
Outcome: The completed training provided hotel staff with a practical and easy-to-remember response protocol that enhances safety, compliance, and readiness. The interactive approach increased employee engagement and ensured that critical emergency procedures were not only understood but also effectively implemented.
